Kevin Buchanan - President
Kevin has worked in the high-end specialty A/V retailing and Custom Installation industry for over 30 years. His experience spans everything from component calibration to complete home automation.
Over the last 20 years his system designs have been incorporated in countless homes, commercial applications, and several different types of private aircraft. These designs have also been published on the national level (1990 cover story Audio Video Interiors magazine, 2002 feature story Audio Video Interiors), and on the regional level (1993 cover story of Texas magazine). He has been on the product design dealer counsel for several audio manufacturers over the last 20 years and he is actively involved with CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association). In 1993 he was THX certified for theater design by LucasFilms Ltd. at Skywalker ranch.
In the late 1980's he was heavily involved with the FROX system which was one of the first hard-drive based A/V control devices. His excitement for the technology turned to disappointment as he realized the technology was not yet ready. Like most integrators, he turned to companies like AMX and Crestron to combine the capabilities of different technologies and simplify the operation of high performance systems. While he had success with these platforms, he was dissatisfied with their complexity, the number of specialized parts, the required custom programming, and their overall cost effectiveness. When he and his brother Michael (retired President of Simplex-Grinnell) opened Home Entertainment Inc. in 2005, they decided to break from traditional A/V specialty retailing and focus on Windows XP based Media Servers with Xbox Media Center Extenders.
In 2006 and 2007, Home Entertainment Inc. was chosen as one of the Top 40 Hybrid Dealers in the United States by CE Pro magazine. HEI has had great success using wireless tablet devices in conjunction with XBOX Media Center Extenders to provide cost effective control of multi-room audio and un-tethered video.
